Washington DC

We had the absolute best time in Washington DC! We were both a little unsure as to what to expect as we were only really stopping by to make our NYC trip a little more affordable. With all that considered we had a blast. There is so much to see in DC and so much of it is free!

Top Tips for Washington DC

 The Museums and Galleries

Obviously. But for real there are some really cool museums here. We were in DC for 4 days and it was the perfect amount of time. All the Smithsonian Museums are amazing but my absolute fave was the National Museum of American History. It is such a cool place with lots of modern history and they even have Julia Child's kitchen! The Air And Space Museum was another super cool one!

The National Mall

This place is HUGE. I had down in our itinerary that we could do the National Mall, the White House and all the surrounding attractions in 1 day but wow, it is a lot of walking. Seeing the White House is cool but Oh Wow the Lincoln Monument is incredible and definitely worth the walking. The whole area is packed with electric scooters you can rent on Uber so if you're really not up to the walk, thats another option!

Georgetown

This college town was one of my favourite places I've ever been. We had a very pricey but instagtrammable brunch at The Georgetown Inn and strolled around the picturesque streets. We got cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcake and I bought a beautiful scarf in Free People. Worth a look if like me you love Tim Burton realism and feeling like you're on a movie set.

The Cinema

The new Star Wars movie had just come out while we were there and I was absolutely DYING to see it. We decided to chill, grab a Chipotle for dinner and go experience and American Movie theatre. It was the best movie watching experience of my life. I had a bucket of popcorn the size of my head, a huge Coke Zero and sat in a cozy recliner to watch. I was in my element.

Where we stayed

The Moxy, Washington DC

What an amazing stay. Moxy is Marriott's new brand which is geared towards 'Millennials', it's more affordable and the rooms are smaller than you're average Marriott hotel. I was blown away by Moxy Washington. You walk in through the front door to a very cool, very chilled bar area with plenty of couches and games to enjoy. You check-in at the bar and enjoy a specialty cocktail on the house. We went up to our rooms to refresh after a very long journey and were delightfully met by a pristine room with funky decor and an amazing view.
In the mornings, coffee is free from the bar area, you just help yourself, absolute heaven.
